CAMIC’s objective is to keep you informed through this newsletter. You can look forward to receiving it the third Tuesday of each month. We encourage you to share it with your staff and board. LOBBYING:

Consultation on potential amendments to the demutualization regulations:Thank you to member companies who signed the NDA from the Department of Finance Canada on the demutualization regulations. CAMIC will be meeting with the Department of Finance Canada to understand the proposed changes. A written submission from CAMIC will be sent to the Department of Finance Canada on April 23, 2021. If you have any comments to share, please send them as soon as possible to [email protected]
Economical’s Demutualization Vote:A vote will be held on May 20, 2021 at Economical’s Annual General Meeting on its demutualization vote. CAMIC will be sharing its position on this through Thompson’s World Insurance News. 
Consultation for Federal Financial Technology Regulations:CAMIC has been approached by Department of Finance Canada to share comments from CAMIC members on the regulations for banks, trust and loan companies and insurance companies. Stay tuned ! 
Industry Task Team:CAMIC continues to attend the Industry Task Team meetings to remain informed on flooding issues. The Team is working on a submission to Public Safety Canada. 
CAMIC’s 2021 Virtual Lobby Day:Thank you to all of you who participated in this first time event. It proved to be very informative. Led by Don Moors, President of Temple Scott Associates, from a government relations firm in Ottawa and Joe Jordan, former MP, attendees had not only the opportunity to listen to excellent tips, but also the chance to ask questions to our two speakers.   
CAMIC’s Government Relations and Advocacy Committee:
Please welcome the members of CAMIC’s new committee, Government Relations and Advocacy

This committee will be working with the top three priorities (open banking, flooding, building code) based on the results of CAMIC’s recent member survey to develop a lobbying strategy for CAMIC.

CAMIC is a member of Cooperatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC). CMC just released a database on head office locations of cooperatives and mutuals. Check it out! The Emerging Co-operators Education Fund is a committee created by CMC. If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, you may be able to apply. The next deadline to apply for funding is July 15, 2021. Here is the link. Best of luck! 

CAMIC BOARD INTRODUCTIONS:
 CAMIC wants you to get to know the Board on a more personal level so that you can gain an understanding of those who are leading the association. This month, CAMIC would like to introduce Blair Campbell, Past Chair of CAMIC. Blair is a proud Mutualist having served on the CAMIC Board since 2008 including as Chair from 2018 to 2020. He joined PEI Mutual over 30 years ago holding the position of CEO and General Manager since 2017. Previously, he served as the company’s Claims Manager, Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel. Blair is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada. He holds a BA in Economics and a Bachelor of Law. He is a member of the PEI Bar. He lives in Summerside, PEI with his wife Maureen where they raised their now adult children. He has been active in his community in many volunteer capacities supporting youth, charities, business and economic development. In his spare time Blair enjoys a good outdoor adventure, such as sailing, skiing, hiking or atving.
